From "League Mom" to "Founding
Mother," I've been known to wear quite a few "hats" at any given time.
Here's some information about me
.
I develop and present lectures, courses, and educational materials about breastfeeding management through Bright Future Lactation Resource Center. My Score Sheet for Evaluating Breastfeeding Educational Materials was published in the Journal of Human Lactation in Dec. 1995. You can see a schedule of upcoming speaking engagements or see some typical in-service and professional meeting topics on Linda's Lectures. (See also my curriculum vita and Birthing the Profession.) |
I keep in touch with the "real world" as a Lactation Consultant in private practice in Dayton, Ohio. I help mothers and babies with difficult breastfeeding problems in my office or in their homes. I rent and sell breastpumps and other assistance equipment. I'm an active member of the Greater Miami Valley Breastfeeding Coalition. My husband, Denny, and I run Bright Future Lactation Resource Center, where we make available my videos, teaching materials, FactPacks, and other items supporting the people who support breastfeeding. I do the Lactation Consultant part of the work, researching the Facts and preparing the educational content of the materials. I helped form the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners and the International Lactation Consultant Association. Click on Resources and Professional Development to find more find information about Lactation Consultants. I serve on ILCA's Professional Education Council and the United States Breastfeeding Committee.I taught Lamaze childbirth classes for 20 years in several cities and hospitals and maintain my Lamaze certification as a childbirth educator. I do private tutoring in childbirth preparation, and specialize in non-pharmaceutical pain relief for birthing women. I serve on the Steering Committee for the Coalition to Improve Maternity Services (CIMS) and work to link the birthing and breastfeeding professional communities. My Coach Smith persona comes from my background as a card-carrying physical education teacher and swim coach. I still swim with a USS Masters team at an absurdly early hour several days a week.Granny Zealot was "born" when I became a grandma in 1992. Granddaughter Carrie is now 8 years old - the most wonderful, smart, beautiful, and charming child alive, not that I'm exaggerating or anything.
