Myth: 10 Minute Feeds(Formerly "Eating is Not a Race" ) Coach Smith The notion that baby "gets ALL he needs" in a short time (a) is not accurate, and (b) assumes food is all that is needed. Besides all the research that feedings take longer, I think this "10 minute" stuff is just plain silly. How many adults get "all they need" during the first ten minutes of eating a meal? And we've had lots more practice than babies. And most of us aren't trying to double our weight in 4 months like babies are. There is a reason for everything in nature (Aristotle) and babies usually know what they're doing even if we don't. Yet. I don't understand the big deal about shortening the time it takes to feed babies by promoting rapid eating. Adults who guzzle their food this fast are considered to have an eating disorder.
