Maternal and Infant Assessment for Breastfeeding and Human Lactation: A Guide for the Practitioner

Karin Cadwell, Cindy Turner-Maffei, Barbara O’Connor, Anna Blair

Provides a useful framework upon which assessors can construct a well-rounded process for determining the breastfeeding status of mothers and infants.

The text explores the hallmarks of breastfeeding problems that can be seen, heard, or otherwise observed, and allows the assessor to distinguish between breastfeeding problems, breastfeeding problems that are actually medical problems, and medical problems. Also explored are the multi-factoral components of breastfeeding that contribute to the assessor's construction of individually tailored solutions, and/or appropriate referrals.
